Lots to Celebrate at Annual Conference
Since the beginning of the United Methodist Church, pastors and church members have been meeting together once a year in different states or conferences to worship God, fellowship, and to conduct the business of the Church.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the Indiana Conference met in Indianapolis, and in the 19 years that I have been a United Methodist pastor, I cannot remember a more signifi- cant and meaningful time.
Consider these highlights:
— Our very own Kara Bussabarger was ordained Saturday morning as Elder in full connection. That moment when Bishop Mike Coyner laid hands on her and said, “Take thou authority,” represented 6 years of sacrifice, seminary and surrender for Rob and Kara. (Remember, she was the first one in our Encouraging the Called ministry, that has now touched more than 100 folks ages 14-65.
— Tyler Best was asked to address the whole Conference and report on his experi- ence as a delegate to April’s General Conference in Portland. (General Conference is held once every four years and is responsible for setting all major policies of the UMC. Each individual conference elects delegates and Tyler was the top vote-getter in all of Indiana.)
— Jeannie Bedel attended her first Conference and was asked to address 1,000 members in the Laity Session for about 15 minutes to talk about Pfrimmer’s Chapel’s outreach efforts. From all reports, she did an incredible job representing your church!
— About a month ago, a video team from North Carolina was dispatched to Indi- ana to make a series of films spotlighting top, vital churches in the state. You guessed it . . . Pfrimmer’s Chapel was one of those churches. Our 3-minute video about our Pursue52 initiative played on Friday. (We released it on Facebook last Sunday after- noon. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.)
— I was honored to be invited to attend the Bishop’s luncheon of pastors who re- present the 50 largest churches in Indiana. That’s right . . . out of all 1,123 churches in the state, we rank in the top 50 largest with 8 weekly worship services averaging almost 1,200 folks each week, including two in Colombia.
— Best news of all . . . I was re-appointed as pastor of Pfrimmer’s Chapel!
It was indeed a very good week at Annual Conference as we celebrated all that the Father has done by the power of the Holy Spirit to the glory of Jesus!
